Tried and true: Testament from the pro’s

My husband went to Italy for 2 years and learned Italian. It's been 10 years since then and his opportunities to speak with other Italians has been quite limited. However, ever since his 2 year visit he has read something nearly every day in Italian. As the opportunities arise to speak to native Italians he has found his memory and ability to speak has hardly waned at all. Incredible.

Meanwhile his companions to this trip who also learned the language but have not continued reading it, find they can hardly remember or say much at all. This is a true testament to the power of reading in a second language.

The focus for childhood learning has generally been to speak, dance, and sing. While all these are wonderful lets begin to emphasis reading the same way we do in our native tongue. You'll be grateful you did.

Abuelita Spanish will more than help, and reading could make all the difference.

I can’t express how important reading has been for my development as a language learner. Written language is special because we can work with it in more ways than we can with other forms of language.  It’s also refined.  Writers take the time to select appropriate words to express their thoughts and emotions. Immersing yourself in this refined form of language will refine both your thinking and language skills.

I work as a language coach with over 100 students from all over the world and I’ve worked with hundreds more in the past. After years working with my students I’ve realized that reading is often the missing piece for those struggling to advance, and an essential tool for those who make big progress.- LUCA LAMPARIELLO
